Why this book

One person has to decide whether the money will come back.

Sales brings the customer and operations releases the funds, but the credit manager has to say, with reasons, whether the bank should take the risk at all. The Gate Keeper shows you how to make that decision well, with worked numbers, real cases and the checks experienced bankers rely on.

I spent more than ten years in credit and business banking across four banks, handling proposals from ₹10 lakh to ₹75 crore and rising from credit analyst to Location Head. This book is everything I wish someone had taught me on my first day.

Inside, you will learn to

  • Read financial statements like a banker, and spot fake ones
  • Assess working capital, LAP and term loans with worked examples
  • Analyse bank statements, CIBIL reports, ITRs and GST data
  • Tell temporary stress from structural decline, and decide under pressure
  • Write credit notes committees trust, and handle difficult stakeholders
